Moms and Muffins celebration

Many moms and kids enjoyed listening to a story.

The Schaller Crestland Preschool class recently held their annual Moms and Muffins celebration.  This was held on Wednesday, January 19th and Thursday, January 20th.  The preschool students invited their moms/mother figures to come to school and have breakfast with them.  After breakfast they enjoyed a story and a special activity.  The moms/mother figures were invited to stay and play for awhile.  The students really enjoyed their moms coming to school with them.  We will be hosting "Dining with Dads" in February.

Preschoolers are loving learning!

After reading about The Mitten by Jan Brett, the preschool students at Schaller Crestland were able to enjoy a visit from the Sac Co. Naturalist, Renae Stroud.  Renae did many fun activties with the students such as finding matching mittens, feeling real animal furs, pretending to hibernate, lacing mittens together, coloring the animals for the mitten, and bouncing a bear in the parachute.  The students enjoyed this morning that was spent with Renae.

H and Humpty Dumpty

The preschool students were working on the letter H and Humpty Dumpty last
week.  They learned the nursery rhyme, talked about eggs, and made
scrambled eggs.  The students were able to stir the eggs and watch them
change as they cooked.  This was a favorite for many!

Improve your childs health--turn off the media

WHAT SHOULD PARENTS DO?
Set limits
The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests:
• No screen time for children age two years and under
• No more than one hour of total screen time per
day for children ages 3 to 12 years
Parents can set rules and limit their child’s access
to electronic media. Tally the screen time and physical
activities that are normal at your child’s home, child
care, school, and community events.
• Limit computer usage in a child’s room
• Do not allow a TV in a child’s room
• Do not allow media use during homework
and meal times
• Promote physical activities
• Regularly eat family meals together
• Set a regular bedtime for your child
• Limit screen time for all family members
• Be a good role model for your child
Get out and about
All children should get at least 60 minutes of
moderate or intense aerobic physical activity each day.
Exercise can:
• lower blood pressure
• increase bone strength
• improve mood
• reduce depression
• lessen stress
• reduce weight

Winter Weather Attire- Are your students prepared?

Cold fronts are moving in and snow is falling.  Please make sure your students are winter weather prepared.  This should include snow boots, snow pants, hats, gloves/mittens, and coats.  All students are expected to participate in recess unless they have a doctor’s excuse.  So they must have appropriate outdoor clothing.   We use 0 degree/0 wind chill to determine outdoor recess.
Children who walk home and are exposed to the elements should have proper winter attire.  Students riding buses should have all their winter gear in case there is a bus emergency and they must be out in the winter weather.

If you are needing assistance and do not have apprpriate attire please contact our school nurse or our school counselor.  712-275-4266

Guitar Man

The third graders were entertained by their fellow classmate Connor Pickhinke.  He brought his guitar and played during their class Christmas party.  The class enjoyed the songs Jingle Bells and Aura Lee.   He also played for the morning and afternoon TK classes.  Connor has been taking guitar lessons for the last couple months from Dr. E. J. Hopkins from Early.
